Rajasthan HC Directs NLU Jodhpur to Gather Instructions on Withholding of Student's Mark-Sheet
The Rajasthan High Court has asked National Law University, Jodhpur to obtain instructions on why a former student's mark-sheet has not been issued, while granting time to reply to an amendment application.
Justice Sanjeet Purohit, sitting singly at the Jodhpur seat of the High Court of Judicature for Rajasthan, passed an interim direction on 22 May 2026 requiring National Law University, Jodhpur to complete instructions concerning the issuance of a mark-sheet to the petitioner, Anuj Shukla. The matter arises from S.B. Civil Writ Petition No. 21380/2025, filed by Shukla in person. The court simultaneously granted the university's counsel time to file a reply to an application seeking amendment of the writ petition, and listed the case for the second week of July 2026.
The Dispute Before the Court
Anuj Shukla has approached the Rajasthan High Court through a civil writ petition against National Law University, Jodhpur. The petition concerns the non-issuance of his mark-sheet by the university. Shukla appears in person, while the university is represented by Mr. Shreyansh Mardia.
During the hearing on 22 May 2026, Shukla had also filed an application seeking amendment of the writ petition. The university's counsel sought time to file a reply to that amendment application.
The Court's Directions
Justice Purohit accepted the request for time to file the reply. However, the court did not leave the matter entirely open-ended. It directed that, in the meantime, the respondents “shall also complete instructions with regard to issuance of mark-sheet of the petitioner.”
This direction requires the university to be ready with its position on the mark-sheet question before the next date of hearing. The matter has been listed in the second week of July 2026.
Outcome
The court granted NLU Jodhpur time to reply to the amendment application. It directed the university to complete instructions on the issuance of the petitioner's mark-sheet in the interim. The writ petition is next listed in the second week of July 2026 before Justice Sanjeet Purohit.
