The High Court of Tripura closed a criminal revision petition after a Lok Adalat settlement on 9 May 2026, directing the petitioner-husband to clear the outstanding balance before the next Family Court date.
The High Court of Tripura, Agartala, disposed of a criminal revision petition on 22 May 2026 after being informed that the parties had reached a settlement before a Lok Adalat on 9 May 2026. Justice Biswajit Palit, sitting singly, recorded that only Rs.40,000 of the agreed Rs.1,00,000 had been paid by the petitioner-husband as of May 2026, and directed him to ensure compliance with the Lok Adalat order before the next date of hearing in the main case before the Additional Judge, Family Court, Agartala, West Tripura.
The Dispute Before the High Court
The petitioner, Smt. Sudipa Das, son of Sri Himangshu Ranjan Das, resident of Flat No.201, 2nd Floor, Harri Apartment, 13/4 G.T. Road, Bhadrakali, Hooghly District, West Bengal, had filed Criminal Revision Petition No.24 of 2026 before the High Court of Tripura. The revision challenged an order dated 28 August 2025 passed in Misc. Case No.592 of 2024.
The respondent-wife, Smt. Susmita Biswas, daughter of Sri Jadu Gopal Biswas, is a resident of Ker Chowmuhani, T.G. Road, P.S. West Agartala, District West Tripura. The State of Tripura was also arrayed as a respondent.
Mr. Abhinandan Pal and Ms. M. Majumder appeared for the petitioner. Mr. Kishor Kumar Pal and Ms. Punam Murasing appeared for the respondents.
Settlement Through Lok Adalat and Partial Payment
When the matter came up on 22 May 2026, counsel for both sides were present. Mr. A. Pal informed the Court that the parties had settled their dispute through a Lok Adalat on 9 May 2026. Under the terms of that settlement, the petitioner was required to pay Rs.1,00,000 (Rupees One Lac) to the respondent-wife.
However, only Rs.40,000 had been paid up to May 2026, leaving a balance of Rs.60,000. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the remaining amount would be cleared shortly.
Justice Palit recorded that since the dispute had been settled through the Lok Adalat on 9 May 2026, “nothing survives for adjudication.” The revision petition was accordingly disposed of.
Direction to the Trial Court
While disposing of the petition, the Court imposed a specific condition on the petitioner. He was directed to ensure compliance with the Lok Adalat order dated 9 May 2026 on or before the next hearing of the main case pending before the Additional Judge, Family Court, Agartala, West Tripura.
The Court further directed that a copy of its order dated 22 May 2026, along with a copy of the Lok Adalat order dated 9 May 2026 and the settlement form, if any, be sent down to the trial court along with the case record. All pending applications, if any, were also disposed of as a consequence.
